WIG is heading back to its roots.

The Winter Icebreaker Getaway began years ago with one simple goal: bring people together for a long weekend of exploring Maine’s snow-covered wilderness. Since then, it has grown into one of the largest and most anticipated winter events 207 Overland hosts each year.

For 2027, we are taking WIG farther north, returning it to its traditional Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, and making the entire experience more affordable.

Our new base camp will be Dean’s Motor Lodge in Portage Lake, Maine. Located along the edge of the North Maine Woods, Portage puts us in the heart of some of the best and most dependable winter conditions in the state. This is a place where winter is not just a season. It is part of the landscape, the culture, and the experience.

The location may be changing, but everything people love about WIG remains. Four days and three nights in Northern Maine, multiple guided winter trips, nighttime rides, great food, time with friends, and the chance to experience the Maine woods during one of its most beautiful and unpredictable seasons.

WIG 2027 begins Friday, January 15, with arrival and check-in during the late afternoon. That evening, we will gather together to kick off the weekend, meet the trip leaders, reconnect with old friends, welcome new attendees, and go over the schedule and important winter travel information.

The weekend will feature a complete schedule of trips. Options will range from relaxed scenic drives through the winter landscape to more challenging routes focused on fresh snow, remote roads, and the unpredictable conditions that make winter exploration so much fun.

There will be something for nearly every properly prepared vehicle and experience level. Routes and difficulty levels may change based on snowfall, ice, active logging, road access, and weather conditions at the time of the event.

Night rides and additional activities will also be offered throughout the weekend.

Monday morning will provide time for breakfast, goodbyes, and departure for home after a full long weekend in the North Maine Woods.

Space for WIG 2027 is extremely limited.

Dean’s is a much smaller and more traditional property than our previous location. Once the available rooms have been claimed, registration will close.

Room options are priced at $299, $399, or $499 for the entire three-night weekend. Payment in full is required when registering. Rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Because 207 Overland will be reserving the property specifically for this event, payments are final. Refunds for cancellations will only be available if the cancelled room can be filled by another attendee. Reservation transfers will close 30 days before the event.
