To the end of the world, and back again. DestinationXtreme presents an expedition to the end of the most remote road in all of North America. While the terrain may not be the most extreme, the isolation and distance to the nearest services is beyond extreme. If you are looking to push yourself further than ever before, this is the trip for you.
An expedition not to be taken lightly, the Trans Taiga Challenge places you on the most remote road in North America through the rugged and remote wilderness of northern Quebec.
If you are looking to truly get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life, this is for you. It's just you, your rig, and endless peace and quiet up here.
This 9 day adventure meets in Quebec City and covers just shy of 3000 miles across northern Quebec and back again. There will be some fuel stops along the way but the further north we get, the 400 mile range requirement including reserve will be crucial.
As with all of our trips, you and your vehicle for this trip must meet all the requirements including being able to cross international borders and travel long distances without issue. While on the trail, there will be a few places to get supplies but there will come a point where everything else will need to be carried with us.
Trans Taiga Challenge Itinerary:
On day one, our group will meet just outside Quebec City in Quebec Canada. After departing, we will start our journey north, taking advantage of some small towns along the way for our last supplies before leaving civilization behind. Our camping spots for the trip will be a mix of marked and dispersed areas and are flexible depending on the miles covered each day. We will plan to camp at the very end of the road before turning back for the return journey.
The Trans Taiga Challenge is designed to be experienced with a small group of likeminded individuals to keep the adventure going smoothly. This trip will be limited to 5 vehicles and participant families.
DestinationXtreme will have this trip fully planned for you from beginning to end and make sure you are completely prepared beforehand. Extra expenses for this trip include but are not limited to:
• Fuel to cover 3k miles
• Food - groceries and restaurants
The short answer is yes, but there are some things to consider. Once we pass the last town, we will be on our own for the remainder of the trip. Your kids should be old enough to understand, have experience with, and be comfortable with long days in the vehicle and camping. Every family is different but typically we find kids over the age of 6 do best with trips of this type. Keep in mind, your child will need a passport as well. As for pets, your well behaved and leash trained dog is always welcome. However, keep in mind you must be able to show proof of vaccinations at international crossings and your dog will also need to be used to long days in the vehicle.
We will be traveling deep into the wilderness and will experience all manner of wildlife while here. While camping at night, precautions should be taken to avoid leaving any food or scent that could attract bears. We will go over this with participants well in advance but this includes not leaving food or garbage out/unsealed and even extra care with soaps and deodorants.
We have planned the dates for this trip to coincide with early spring in the region. We "should" hit the area before the mosquitos kick into high gear but of course the exact dates warm weather will start to arrive can vary and is impossible to fully predict in advance. We will go over this as the trip gets close but extra bug gear like spray, repellant, nets, and appropriate skin covering clothing is required.
Yes, although there is a large distance to cover, each day we will take breaks and there will be opportunities to be on your feet and some chances to explore too.
At first there will be many places to take scheduled stops for bathroom breaks. As we get further north, actual facilities will become nonexistent. Plan accordingly. Campsites will be dispersed style, carry in/carry out and participants should plan accordingly.
While in southern Quebec, the prices will be similar to here in the states. The further north we get, you can expect a cost of roughly $5 to $8USD per gallon after conversion.
No, you can get Canadian money out of an ATM using your bank card once you have crossed over. Most places we will go accept cards but some cash is recommended as a backup the further north we get. We will stop at an ATM before getting too far into the trip. Most importantly, please contact your bank, credit card, and cell phone provider well before the trip and inform them of your travel plans to avoid issues once crossing over.
Yes, it is and it is a prerequisite for signing up. A full passport is strongly recommended in case of emergency.

Upon receiving your booking, we will reach out with a personal confirmation of your vehicle and people attending. Please email us or use the chat feature with any questions you may have.
