The Bay of Fundy is home to some of the largest tide changes around which means constantly changing terrain and places to explore. From the beach itself to a nearby island that becomes accessible at low tide, massive cliffs, caves, wildlife, and more are all right at your fingertips. Everything is within walking distance or for even more fun, put it into 4 wheel drive and have a blast!

Aside from the beach itself, there are plenty of options to explore nearby trails or even embark on a blue/black rated mini-expedition to a nearby epic trail.

About the trip

Our meeting location will be in Calais Maine on Thursday morning. After crossing the border we will make the trip to the beach where we will set up camp for the weekend ahead. Each day we will have breakfast together before the daily options of exploring or relaxing begin. For those that chose to spend a day on the trails, we will eat lunch on the go and be back to camp in time for dinner.

Expedition Level vehicle requirements for this trip are valid but fuel requirements are relaxed. 400 mile range has been reduced to 250 with carried reserves.

Trails Beyond The Tides is a base camp style expedition designed to be experienced with a group of likeminded individuals to keep the adventure going smoothly.

FAQs

Is this a family friendly trip?

The short answer is yes, but there are some things to consider. Your kids should be old enough to understand, have experience with, and be comfortable with long days in the vehicle and camping. Every family is different but typically we find kids over the age of 6 do best with trips of this type.

What will the weather be like?

July on the Bay of Fundy is very nice. Although the exact weather will be hard to predict until we get closer to the event, expect warm days and cool nights. We are on exposed open ocean however so wind and the need for sweatshirts should be taken into consideration.

Where will we shower and go to the bathroom?

Our camping with be dispersed, carry in, carry out style and participants will need to plan accordingly. A pop-up privy is recommended.

Is wildlife a concern?

We will certainly pass through areas with a diverse amount of wildlife and extra precautions will be taken at camp to ensure a safe time for all. This will be gone over with all participants but will include actions like sealing up all food and garbage and not leaving food and trash outside.
