O.T.A.C. New Brunswick

June 13-21 2025

Our next installment of our Overland Trek Across Canada series will conquer New Brunswick from North to South  in a highly specialized and strategically executed trip in the O.T.A. format made famous on the east coast by 207 Overland.

A unique experience

OTAM and now OTAC were born from the idea of strategically getting your overland rig from one corner of the Provence to the other, avoiding pavement at all costs all while carefully rationing food, water, fuel, and the allotted time for the trip.

What makes OTAC special?

Just because one trail ends, doesn’t mean the journey does. OTAC is held with a small convoy of  hand selected people and each with their own unique speciality for the trip ahead. Together, they overcome each obstacle in a race against time and supplies to reach the finish line together.

About the trip

Individual Responsibilities

OTAC will be a well documented journey on video with a focus on strategic planning, execution, and the individual part that each team/vehicle plays. For example, the cook for the trip while not responsible for purchasing everyone’s food, may carry and prepare group meals for the trip with that freeing up space in the mechanic/recovery vehicle for more tools and recovery related gear. Smaller vehicles, limited space, specialize responsibilities. All vehicles must carry basic individual necessities and fuel to cover at least 400 miles, with specialized gear distributed to other vehicles. OTAC will be limited to a total of 5 vehicles per trip.

Trip Lead

Responsible for the safety and successful completion of the OTAC, the trip leader makes decisions as to the trip pace, direction, and more based on recommendations from the rest of the team.

Navigation

Our navigation specialist for the trip has it all mapped out from beginning to end including alternates. A mapping/gps expert, any changes or roadblocks we run into will be successfully rerouted from the navigation position.

Medic

This certified and trained individual focuses on and packs for any medical “what if” that may occur during the trip including any individual preexisting conditions that other participants may have.

Adventure Cook

The foundation of any successful overland trip is great food and the adventure cook for the journey focuses on providing just that using easily prepared recipes for group consumption.

Recovery/Mechanic

Even the most prepared and well maintained vehicles may run into issues or need to be recovered during a trip like OTAC and our Mechanic/Recovery expert is prepared with the knowledge and tools to handle anything that comes their way.

Media Rig

OTAC tells a story and the media rig is there to capture it. Pre trip interviews, action footage, commentary, and post trip editing are all part of the game here for someone who is passionate about video work.

OTAC is designed to be completed by a small group of likeminded individuals to keep the adventure going smoothly. This trip will be limited to 5 vehicles and participant families.

DestinationXtreme will work closely with the carefully selected team to ensure a smooth trip and make sure you are completely prepared beforehand. Once selected, trip costs that you are responsible for include, but are not limited to:

• Fuel to cover a distance of roughly 800 miles, plus getting to and from our meeting and ending locations.

• Food - groceries and restaurants

FAQs

  • Is this a family/pet friendly trip? - The short answer is yes, but there are some things to consider. Your kids should be old enough to understand, have experience with, and be comfortable with long days in the vehicle and camping. Every family is different but typically we find kids over the age of 6 do best with trips of this type. Keep in mind, your child will need a passport as well. As for pets, your well behaved and leash trained dog is always welcome. However, keep in mind you must be able to show proof of vaccinations at international crossings and your dog will also need to be used to long days in the vehicle.
  • Will there be opportunities to break up the days of driving? - We will take scheduled bathroom breaks and time for lunch along the way but this trip covers a large amount of miles in a short amount of time so frequent stops will not be possible if we are to reach our goal.
  • Where will we shower and go to the bathroom along the way? - The journey will travel through remote areas and any camping spots will be dispersed style, carry in/carry out and participants should plan accordingly. While stopping for fuel, you may find a rest room but that is an exception and not the norm.
  • Will I need to bring cash? - No, you can get Canadian money out of an ATM using your bank card once we have crossed over the international crossing. Most places we will go accept cards but a small amount of cash is recommended as a backup. Most importantly, please contact your bank, credit card, and cell phone provider well before the trip and inform them of your travel plans to avoid issues once crossing over.
  • Is a passport required for this trip? - Yes, it is and it is a prerequisite for signing up.
A full passport is strongly recommended in case of emergency.
