July 3-18 (Option to Extend to 26th)

There is a reason we keep coming back and it’s because Newfoundland continues to surprise us with new epic spots every time. "Unlike anything else,” is perhaps the only way to describe the culture here, the people, the cuisine, the camping, and an adventure of a lifetime with DestinationXtreme.

Drive through beautiful coastal towns, rugged sea cliffs, and climb to scenic vistas. Every day is a new adventure and each day will bring something more exciting than the last.

World Class Camping

Camp with us above the beaches and rocks on some of the most scenic campsites on earth. Fall asleep to the sound ocean waves and whales breaching the surface in the distance. Wake to amazing sunrises and the sight of icebergs and let this adventure rejuvenate your soul.

About the trip

This 3-4 week adventure completes a 3800 mile loop around the entire island of Newfoundland, starting from the Maine border and returning via ferry to Nova Scotia and back to Maine via New Brunswick. You can expect a bucket list level trip that only DestinationXtreme can deliver.

As with all of our trips, you and your vehicle for this trip must meet all the requirements including being able to cross international borders and travel long distances without issue. While in Newfoundland, there will be many opportunities daily to get out and enjoy the scenery, restock supplies, and enjoy plenty of local eateries.

Newfoundland: The Fellowship of the Rock Itinerary:

Our meeting place will be in just over the border from Calais Maine in New Brunswick were we we will then make the trip to Sydney Nova Scotia to catch the overnight ship to Newfoundland.

Upon arrival at the shores of Newfoundland, we begin our daily adventures across the entirety of the exploitable coastline. Each day will bring new sights, food, and adventure as some of the trails in the area are the best around and feature amazing scenery too. As we slowly make our way counter-clockwise around the shoreline, the crew will split from those having to cut the journey short and continue the adventure as the others board the early ship back home.

Newfoundland: Fellowship of the Rock is designed to be experienced with a small group of likeminded individuals to keep the adventure going smoothly. This trip will be limited to 6 vehicles and participant families.

DestinationXtreme will have this trip fully planned for you from beginning to end and make sure you are completely prepared beforehand. Extra expenses for this trip include but are not limited to:

• Fuel to cover 3800 miles

• Ferry expenses

• Food - groceries and restaurants

More Details

Where will we be?

This unique adventure of a lifetime kicks off by traveling up through the beautiful coastline of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia on our way to the ship that will take us to Newfoundland. Once landing on the south eastern shore, we will begin a 3 week (4 for the ”Complete Saga” option) expedition covering the entirety of the island.

Along the way, expect to see endless coastal scenery, famous towns, landmarks, Terra Nova, Gros Morne National Park, mountains, the best food local food around, and so much more. Unless you’ve been here before, we can guarantee you’ve never seen any place like this!

FAQ’s

  • Is this a family/pet friendly trip? - The short answer is yes, but there are some things to consider. Your kids should be old enough to understand, have experience with, and be comfortable with long days in the vehicle and camping. Every family is different but typically we find kids over the age of 6 do best with trips of this type. Keep in mind, your child will need a passport as well. As for pets, your well behaved and leash trained dog is always welcome. However, keep in mind you must be able to show proof of vaccinations and meet other requirements at international crossings and your dog will also need to be used to long days in the vehicle.
  • Will there be opportunities to break up the days of driving? - Yes, although there is a large distance to cover, each day there will be opportunities to be on your feet and some chances to explore too.
  • Where will we shower and go to the bathroom along the way? - While driving, there will be many places to take scheduled stops for bathroom breaks. Campsites however will be dispersed style, carry in/carry out and participants should plan accordingly. We will make at least one stop at a campground in the middle of our trip to take advantage of their shower facilities. Our overnight ferry rides features cabins with private showers onboard.
  • What can we expect for gas prices while on Newfoundland? - Prices fluctuate but plan on a cost of roughly $5 USD per gallon after conversion.
  • Will I need to bring cash? - No, you can get Canadian money out of an ATM using your bank card once we have crossed over. Most places we will go accept cards but a small amount of cash is recommended as a backup. Most importantly, please contact your bank, credit card, and cell phone provider well before the trip and inform them of your travel plans to avoid issues once crossing over.
  • Is a passport required for this trip? - Yes, it is and it is a prerequisite for signing up.
A full passport is strongly recommended in case of emergency.
