FAQs

Is this a family/pet friendly trip?

The short answer is yes, but there are some things to consider. This is a long duration overland style trip across the country. Your kids should be old enough to understand, have experience with, and be comfortable with long days in the vehicle and camping. Every family is different but typically we find kids over the age of 6 do best with trips of this type. Keep in mind, your child will need a passport as well. As for pets, your well behaved and leash trained dog is always welcome. However, keep in mind you must be able to show proof of vaccinations at international crossings and your dog will also need to be used to long days in the vehicle.

Are bears and other wildlife a concern?

We will be traveling deep into the wilderness and will experience all manner of wildlife while here. While camping at night, precautions should be taken to avoid leaving any food or scent that could attract bears. We will go over this with participants well in advance but this includes not leaving food or garbage out/unsealed and even extra care with soaps and deodorants.

What about the bugs?

This time of year, the worst is behind us. We will go over this as the trip gets close but extra bug gear like spray, repellant, nets, and appropriate skin covering clothing is still recommended just in case.

Will be break up the days of driving?

Yes, although there is a large distance to cover, each day we will take breaks and there will be opportunities to be on your feet and some chances to explore too.

Where will we shower and go to the bathroom along the way?

Our camping with be mostly dispersed, carry in, carry out style and you will need to bring your own bathroom facility. However, we will plan a stop at a real campground during the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge portion of the trip to enjoy hot showers, laundry, and real restrooms.
