About SAC Overland Rally

From is origins in the late 1940s to expansion during the Cold War, Loring Air Force Base was a record holder in almost every way imaginable. The largest runway, the most bombers, largest hangars, largest fuel storage, and the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons anywhere in the country are just a few of its accolades. From the time of its closure in the 90s, the base and adjacent weapons storage area have gone through different hands of ownership and many areas have remained off limits - until now.

Gates for our rally open Friday at 1pm with a full schedule of activities starting shortly after lasting through Monday afternoon. Daily activities include tours, overland workshops, classes, vendors, food trucks, overland rides, fireworks, and great camping each night under the stars. Camping amenities include garbage disposal, porta-johns, and a central community fire pit.

The SAC Overland Rally is open to overland style rigs and 4x4s of every shape and size. Come show off your build and look for inspiration from other rigs on site. Every participant will have access to merch, raffles, a map of the base, and more!

Participants will have options for special guided trips coming to and from the event and there will be day trip options during the event as well. Sign ups are first come, first serve and all trips are "green rated" which can be accomplished in any stock 4x4 vehicle and are in keeping with the principles of Tread Lightly!

We do realize that this event may be many peoples first exposure to the overland lifestyle and you might not have the camping part figured out yet and we have you covered! While the best experience is to camp overland style, there will also be space set up for those with self contained RVs and Motel/Hotel options close by.
